The mission of the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group is "to develop and promote our business environment and enhance the quality of life in the community we serve."  The CDG is an umbrella organization that encompasses Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development and Marketing and Tourism activities and projects.  In addition, the CDG is involved in the Mount Vernon Main Street Iowa program, developed by the Iowa Department of Economic Development.

Located in Eastern Iowa at the intersection of Highways 30 and 1, 20 miles north of Iowa City and 15 miles east of Cedar Rapids, Mount Vernon and Lisbon boast vibrant uptown business communities with antique and specialty stores, restaurants, coffee houses, professional services, commercial art galleries, studios and three National Historic Districts.

Mount Vernon is home to Cornell College, one of the nation's leading liberal arts colleges.  The Mount Vernon Visitor's Center is the world headquarters for the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group, and is also the office of the director.
