Lisbon History Center

Located in downtown Lisbon and bursting with unique artifacts dating back to the Civil War era, the Lisbon History and Culture Center has collected thousands of items dipicting the long history of this area.

Probably not many of us know that Lisbon was once called "Yankee Grove", or that thousands of people turned out for Sauerkraut Days annually.  There was a rail system that kept commerce vibrant with buildings full of stores.  Some of that memorabilia can still be found displayed on tables, shelves, drawers and videos.

From newspaper clippings and obituaries, to uniforms, sports equipment and photographs of our predecessors, to paintings, books, cannons, dishes, school year books and personal letters from Lisbon residents, one can find a wealth of historical information here.

Open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday from 10am - 3pm, the Lisbon History and Culture Center is run by friendly, dedicated volunteers.  There is no admission, but donations are welcome.  For more information, please call (319) 455-2714 during open hours.
