Mount Vernon and Lisbon residents invited to photograph areas of the community as part of the Community Visioning Program; $100 in gift certificates offered as prizes
Residents of both Mount Vernon and Lisbon are invited to take part in a Visual Quality Assessment of their towns through Iowa’s Living Roadways Community Visioning Program.

The goal of the Community Visioning program, facilitated by Trees Forever, Iowa State University Extension and the Iowa Department of Transportation, and coordinated locally by private citizens from both Mount Vernon and Lisbon, is to identify transportation needs and opportunities in the two communities, especially related to pedestrians, bicyclists and overall aesthetics.

To that end, all residents are invited to submit photographs of their respective communities that show both positive views and places in need of improvement. Instructions for documenting and submitting photographs are available online at http://sites.google.com/site/mountvernonvisioning/ All photos need to be received by May 20.

Volunteers will also be distributing instruction forms for the Assessment at the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group tent during Chalk the Walk on May 7 and 8.

After submitting photos, four photographers, two from each community, will be randomly selected to win $25 in Community Cash gift certificates redeemable at all Mount Vernon-Lisbon banks and businesses.

“These community photos will be consolidated to create an online map,” says Emily Swihart, Trees Forever Field Coordinator of the Project. “This map, along with all other input from our Visioning Events, will help each community to develop and prioritize improvements related to transportation and aesthetics.”

For each photo, photographers are asked to use the Visual Quality Assessment Form posted on the Web site to note the following information on each submitted photo:

    The location of the photo, including the direction that the photographer is facing
    Three adjectives to describe the photo
    A sentence about what is appealing or unappealing

Photos should be emailed to:
