| Winners of the Chili Cookoff Contest Announced |

The Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group today announced the winners of the 5th Annual Mount Vernon Chili Cook-off held Saturday, Oct. 29, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Iowa Physical Therapy Parking Lot, 108 First St. SE, in Uptown Mount Vernon. First Place ($100) Hog Call Chili, Des Moines Second Place ($75) Kluver Chiropractic/Indulgence Salon, Mount Vernon Third Place ($50) Enchanted Chili, Mount Vernon People’s Choice ($75) Kluver Chiropractic/Indulgence Salon, Mount Vernon The chili cook-off contest is open to the public. The event featured more than 20 four-person teams vying for cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and People’s Choice awards. A scarecrow contest was also voted on by the general public throughout October, culminating in a final vote at the Chili Cook-off event. First Place for the Scarecrow contest was The Dance Place, Mount Vernon. Second Place for the Scarecrow contest was Shepley Pharmacy, Mount Vernon. Mount Vernon was named one of America’s “10 Coolest Small Towns” by Budget Travel magazine in October of 2009.
