Accordion player Becky Livermore (a.k.a. Polka Becky of 'Barefoot Becky and the Ivanhoe Dutchmen') will perform at Southeast Linn Community Center on Wednesday, April 11 at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public; donations will be accepted.
She'll bring several fellow musicians with her (on bass, guitar and tuba) and present a two-part program. The first half will be educational, comparing different polka traditions, focusing on Slovak and German. The second half will be dance instruction.
This event is made possible by a grant from the Iowa Arts Council, which provides an opportunity for Iowa communities to experience traditional music, foods, dance, rituals and crafts from a variety of groups living in Iowa. The event is co-sponsored by the Mount Vernon and Lisbon Libraries.
