National security
experts will speak at Cornell College this fall as part of a National
Security Network’s “Around the Country” series. The National Security
Network, based in Washington, D.C., is a foreign policy organization
dedicated to strengthening public understanding and support of
international relations, global affairs, and national security.
National security experts who will visit Cornell include:
Monday, Oct. 6: Daniel Benjamin is an expert on European
affairs, terrorism, and American foreign and security policy at the
Brookings Institute. He served for more than five years on the National
Security Council staff, including as director for transnational threats.
Monday, Oct. 27: Lt. Col. Stephen Abraham is a lawyer and army
intelligence officer with more than 26 years experience. He was the
first officer who served with the Office for the Administrative Review
of the Detention of Enemy Combatants to publicly criticize the
operations of the Combatant Status Review Tribunals for prisoners at
Guantanamo Bay.
All events are held in Hedges Conference Room in The Commons on the Cornell College campus at 3:30 p.m.
