Located about 15 miles southwest of Mount Vernon and Lisbon on Highway 1, the observatory is operated by the Cedar Amateur Astronomers and the Linn County Conservation Department.

Two observatory buildings house three telescopes, made available during monthly public observing sessions held March through October.
